Understanding how colour is formed and, more importantly, the relationships between different colours, can help us to use colour more effectively in desgins. Having the knowledge to mix and put colours together is one element in the building blocks of creating an artwork.

“Generally speaking, colour directly influences the soul. Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another purposively, to cause vibrations in the soul.”

Wassily Kandinsky

"Mere colour, unspoiled by meaning and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways."

Oscar Wilde

"Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment."  Claude Monet
